Chocolate ganache cake

John made a cake, from scratch, today. His review is "yum, it's really good".

Proof!

For all you doubters out there here's the evidence that I got up and rode the wake.

Can't wait to do it again!

But will it float?

The question was whether or not this bad boy, filled with 8 young boys, would float. We found out on Saturday that not only did it float but the boys managed to move pretty quickly through the water. Nice job boys.

Fridays afternoons are rough

Okay, not really.

Before the flip

This photo was taken before the entire tube launched the four of them head over heels (and over each other). Truly a spectacular wipeout that was not caught on tape and everybody floated away from uninjured.

Great day on the lake despite the 20 mph winds. Can't wait until next time!

So the boys are participating in the 24 Hour challenge run at their school (only 8 hours to go, just in case you're counting) with about 400 of their schoolmates.

The purpose is solely personal challenge. There's no fund raising. There isn't any competition other than with yourself. It's a great time.

The odds were against the satellite snapping a photo of the event but sure enough it did (last year).

Here's the image of Lundahl MS, Crystal Lake, IL as seen on Google Maps. From the sparse crowds and the direction of the shadows this picture was taken in the morning probably just about now only 365 days ago. I'll be heading over soon to wish them luck as they push through to the end.

Lisa called to inform me that Jacob has already run 15 miles. Way to go Jacob!

Time out on the water today

The boys' friend, Andrew, joined us for some fun in the sun. The boys had a blast.

2012 Mother's Day

Me and a couple of my favorite moms. Noticeably missing from this photo: my mom and the mother of my children.

Happy Mother's Day to all of you.

Ninety-nine

The boys found out they will remain part of the 99% this week. After attending caddy training and making the first two (or possibly three) rounds of cuts they were cut this weekend.

Based upon their demeanor I believe I'm more disappointed than they are. John did point out that they'll be able to spend more time with their family and friends since they won't have to caddy. I pointed out to Jacob that since they won't have a job that smartphone doesn't look all too promising on their upcoming birthday. A simple cell phone and access to a beach and a boat. It's rough being unemployed.

Twin Giant Peeps

The twins are loaded up and heading in to school. Nice work John and Lisa

Fox Valley Choral Festival

Okay, the concert wasn't really that long considering most of the songs are around 2 minutes in length. Lucky for us the concert was only 45 minutes from home. In case you're not up on your math word problem skills that's 90 minutes of driving for 10ish minutes of performing.

The beat goes on and on...

John's chorus group participated in the conference festival tonight.

Tis the Season

Performance season, that is.

Tonight we went over to Crystal Lake South HS and heard the following performances by the Lundahl MS Chorus.

We also had the opportunity to hear the four high school choral groups perform their culminating piece for the year - a 25 minute Shubert composition in Latin. The 150+ members did a very nice job considering they didn't know 'what' they were singing.

Enjoy the much shorter performances by the MS chorus:

Grease is the word

Okay, I've been negligent (again). The boys performed this weekend in the Lundahl MS production of Grease Jr. The directors rewrote the part of Vince Fontaine when they cast the boys into the one role - as brothers Vince and Vance.

The shows were a lot of fun and the kids did a spectacular job. Kudos to them all! More pics here

John at Alpine Valley

John at Alpine Valley a video by J-Travels on Flickr.

John and I headed to Alpine Valley yesterday for a quick afternoon on the slopes. This video pretty much sums up the day: sunny skies, small crowds, and a good time.

Negligent

A lot has happened since my last post and I find myself struggling to figure out a way to catch up. There was Christmas, a trip to Michigan, New Year's, and a trip back through a minor blizzard. And then there's been work. Lots of work.

All of the above has conspired to make me negligent in updating this blog. I will do better. Soon. I promise. :-)

School Uniforms?

I'm a supporter of students looking nice for school but this seems a bit over the top.

John said he feels like James Bond in a tuxedo shirt.
Jacob just said he is 'itchy' around his neck. :-)

NU vs MSU

The season ended with a loss in the rain. That didn't stop us from having fun.

Another great year of hanging out with family and friends in support of the Cats. Can't wait until next year!
